Manufacturing product catalogs
THE SHORT ANSWER
Industrial product pages should help buyers judge suitability, not just view photographs. Categories, specification units, material options, applications and quote requirements belong in a reusable content template.
Structure before volume
Group products by how buyers select them: type, application or process. Do not turn an internal model list directly into navigation. Similar models may work best on a family page with a specification table, with separate pages only where useful.
Make specifications usable
State units, applicable conditions and available options. Separate standard-product data from customization capabilities and illustrative values. Images should show the model, details and applications. Version downloads and protect customer-specific drawings.
Keep quote requests in context
A product inquiry should explain which product, quantity, material, intended use and delivery region the buyer needs to provide. Exchange complex drawings and confidential information through an agreed secure channel.
What is delivered
The scope can include category architecture, a content-field sheet, a detail-page template, an agreed number of entries and editor guidance. Bulk imports, filters, additional languages and recurring updates are scoped separately.
Practical questions
What if we have hundreds of products?
Validate the structure with representative products, then prepare the catalog in batches. Catalog size should not come at the expense of accurate specifications.
